Duologica Site Technical Specs
This site has been carefully developed in adherence to several web design standards
as defined by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3). You can learn more about these
standards and the W3 itself at www.w3.org.
Markup and Programming
HTML, the markup language of the Web, has gone through several revisions and
updates since its introduction. This site is compliant with the W3’s XHTML
1.1 DTD for extensible HTML. This DTD is the latest available.
This site also uses JavaScript for minor programming, mostly related to pop-up
windows and the like. In addition, the site uses Server-Side Includes (SSI) for
persistent information like page footers. The site is meant to be fast, so there
is no use of Flash, Shockwave or any similar technology, nor there are any large,
heavy images to download. In total, the site uses four very small images that
consume less than 4KB each.
Style Sheets
Style Sheets or Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) are designed to allow the content
of a web site to remain separate from its appearance on the page. This in turn
provides for better usability on the Web, as it gives users more control over
the content they see and it gives authors the ability to display their content
across platforms as they intended the content to be seen.
This site is compliant with the W3’s CSS2 Recommendation for Cascading Style
Sheets. This recommendation is the latest available. It further makes little use of
tables, striving to use only CSS for positioning objects on each page.
Browser Compatibility
Because the standards with which this site complies are the latest available,
not all web browsers in use today are capable of displaying the site as the
authors intended. In particular, users of older Netscape Navigator browsers
(especially versions 4.x) and users of Microsoft Internet Explorer versions
4.x may have problems viewing this site as it was intended. All users are
encouraged to upgrade to Internet Explorer 6
for Windows or to Netscape 6.2 for Windows.
This site has been successfully tested on those browsers. Please note that
this site has not been tested with the Macintosh versions of any browsers.
Tools
This site was developed using Allaire HomeSiteTM
for the HTML code and the CSS, and Adobe®
Photoshop® and
Adobe®
ImageReadyTM for the images.
